Here's what mom had to say: Hi Liz, This is fabulous! Love your work! We are so excited! We will certainly share your name! Thanks so much! ~Debbie

And More!: This is PERFECT, Liz! Let’s go with it! SOooo excited! Thank YOU! ~Debbie

And More!: Oh Liz—You are wonderful! Thank you for the heads up on the “boys will be boys”* thing. If that happened I now that Ariel would be devastated! Oy! Thank you for EVERYTHING! Can’t wait to show off this poster!! Can’t wait! ~Debbie

*Illustrator's note: "Boys will be boys" references the possibility that a mustache could be drawn on the sign-in-board image by some wild teenage boy you didn't want to invite anyway. If this happens, it's not a problem! We simply have another print made of the sign in art. The portrait image is cut out and placed over the mustached one. Viola! It looks fantastic and flawless!

Finished my second twin for the Don Draper Bar Mitzvah. Gave a lot of thought of how to best position the boys so I could come up with the group picture to uniquely express their individual personalities. I wanted completely different facial expressions and body positions which were different yet equal. I think I got it.

"Don Draper" Bar Mitzvah

Here's an incredibly handsome guy named Idan. Not only is Idan handsome he also has a brother who is equally handsome since they're identical twins. Mom wanted the guys to look similar but different. I thought by having one stand and one sit we could incorporate both of them into the same image for a welcome sign or banner. I really worked with the lighting on this image, I wanted an intense light and look from our young man. Don Draper, the gorgeous sophisticate from the Mad Men series was my muse while I was drawing. Idan looks fabulous!

good/evil book cover

Rough cover samples for good evil book. My standard illustration form wouldn't have been appropriate here. The general concept is that of a ying/yang face done with some photoshop treatment. The left side of the face has received a softer treatment the right is rougher, scratchier and darker. Focus here is on the eyes. Tried to work with a non racial/gender specific image. (It's me in the mock up.) Wanted no regionally specific clothing. My hair in the sample is rather masculine so it kind of works although my face is clearly female. I suppose I could work with my own image if I tweeked the jawline a bit to make it more "manly". Want to keep people guessing and avoid stereotyping. The author still has to get me more information for the cover.

Frank Sinatra Theme!

Here's my latest bar mitz, complete with sign in art and event poster/invite cover. I had a great time with this one. I used the boy's last name, Ratner, in the sign-in art and called it "The Ratner Pack" for that tie in to the Dean/Sammy/Frank element. I was trying to make him look like he was escaping from the paparazzi with the lights and the urban wall.

She forgot to call Oliner Graphics!

Don't be like this poor bar mitzvah mom who is devastated because, despite all her planning, she forgot to call Oliner Graphics! Oliner Graphics offers custom illustrations designed specifically for your event. Images are rich and stunning. Use them on invitations, posters, sign-in art, banners, thank you cards and table tents. Call early and book your time. Ginny's Mom is on-the-go!

Here's some fun. My client Ginny's Mom's birthday is coming up and Ginny wanted to surprise her. So we drew Mom with her favorite toys, her red scooter and her dog. We threw in coordinating shoes and an outfit and Mom's pooch had to be drawn with floppy ears and energy. This image will be 18" square and printed on acid free paper with archival inks.

Hopin' third times the charm!

Picture 12

3rd go at this logo. Changing of concepts as far as the meaning of "fresh" in Get Fresh. At first the concept of "fresh" was to be represented by a wink. Hmm, that just didn't work. The second one was just not quite there as the feeling was a bit too "fresh" (as in trouble maker) and wasn't sweet enough. For this third version, we will see if this cute and adorable concept in "Fresh", as in young and fresh, works. (Provided about 6-8 hand drawn rough sketches before that too!) It's all about bringing the right meaning of the store name to a memorable character reference that will please customers.

Some logo concepts go much faster but logo design can be a process until the client hits that eureka moment. Once I spent a week with a corporate client not sure on "just the right shade of brown." That's the job.

Casey's Finished Sign in Board

Here's another gorgeous idea. My wonderful client Casey and her mom Madelyn sent me this image of her graphic "post party". Instead of the poster, they selected archival paper with archival inks. The image was printed with a large white border which her guests signed. Grandmom loved it too so a second print was sent to her. Mazel tov Casey!

Chef Ben!

Here's Chef Ben whipping up the ingredients for a FABULOUS Bar Mitzvah! What a great theme. Ben's parents requested a more formal body image for the temple and the fun theme image for the event. Here's what my client had to say: Liz, I just looked at both these animations and they both work perfectly and are just delicious!  Our community is going to LOVE them.  I can't wait to hear the reactions -- just can't wait.

And they came right in the nick of time -- thanks for pushing the fixes up.  I did a lot with this project today, including using some of the still images you sent me before, which I can use for almost-animated versions.  They look great, too.

The animations are the icing on the cake, which I will intersperse, and maybe ask you to put a few more together later on.  (I have more ideas than money!)

And yet another nice comment!: I'm glad to hear how fun this work is for you, Liz -- mine is for me, too.  But your art is so soulful and inventive, whether it's on the fun side, tender, provocative, or zany.  I love seeing each new image. ~Ginny

Man of Peace - Animation for Podcast

I had the great opportunity to work again with my wonderful client The Friends Council on Education. We are revisiting a previous image I had drawn of Mr. William Penn and are spicing it up for a podcast. All in all we are making Mr. Penn Wave, my client (not pictured here) kick up her leg, Mr. Penn's hat fly off and a dove with an olive branch fly in and land on his shoulder. I am also including a cityscape that will be zoomed in on in the intro. I am including some of the illustrations that will be used by their animator in Flash. What a fun job! What a great client!

Here's some real fun! This graphic was created for a series of educational podcasts for the Friends Council on Education. I actually created two screens, a sign-on and a sign-off screen. The whole shebang!

Picture 22

I'm having some fun here. This graphic has a lot going on. A full body graphic, an Indiana Jones theme, a New York night sky and the event will be held on a boat. This is a few steps up from the standard portrait package but will blow up unbelievably into a gorgeous print. Unlike most full body illustrations, the same amount of attention as a standard portrait was put into the Bar Mitzvah's face so that it could also be used as a stand alone blow up on its own. The intended use of the graphic is a welcoming sign onto the boat, sign-in art, table tents, place cards as well as being incorporated into the custom invitations. (For the layman reading this please note that the word "proof" has been written across the graphic for protection purposes. This will, of course, be removed when printing.)

One thing to keep in mind is that my artwork is drawn with the intent of blowing up BIG! Massive detail work is put into the graphics which can't be seen on the teeny tiny scale of the computer. Here's a blow up of the bar mitzvah's eye. These illustrations are super detailed and intense to draw!

This is so cool - I just showed it to Andrew and he LOVES it -

Thank you sooooo much.

Beautiful Samantha

Here's a beauty. Samantha's bat mitzvah is on New Years! The image was created with that in mind and the blue's were given a lively depth. I played with the background graphics with the concept of the falling confetti and the excitement of the evening.

Zack-with a change of shirt!

Our wonderful Zack just had his favorite t-shirt replaced by a more formal shirt. And he didn't even have to know! Mom' seems very happy, here's what she had to say:

More perfect than I imagined!  Thank you so much for the extra attention.  Consider this my final approval for Zack's image Pict #22.

More Bailout Graphic Arts!! I drew this one about the 700 billion dollar man in charge of the Government Bailout, Neel Kashkari, while visiting someone in the hospital all day. How about that 900+ increase in the Dow today! Hooray! Hooray for Morgan Stanley! Hooray, I didn't have to draw Palin today!!

Due to popular demand, I put this bailout art on a t-shirt! click to go to the link!

Sisters — B'not Mitzvah

Here are two stunning sisters sharing a Bat Mitzvah.

Here's a comment from my client:
Can I just tell you, this bat mitzvah thing is soooo stressful...but every time I open one of your attachments, I get a big smile on my face and I have a warm happy feeling from head to toe. Thank you! Regards, Nancy

Friends

This was a fun one and purchased by a guest of the bat mitzvah girl as a gift. She loves the show "Friends" and we tried to bring a bit of this into her art. Her friends in the background weren't draw but rendered with a filter to create some interesting background art. Elyssa, the bat mitzvah girl, was hand drawn.

We're ready for our close-up.

My artwork is meant to be seen LARGE. Which means on the teeny-tiny format of the computer you are missing some of the POW! of my poster-sized pieces. Here's an example of Elise, a lovely girl with lovely fine soft features which can get a bit washed out on the small screen. I've blown up parts of the image and, as you can see, when they are blown up even this little bit you can see so much more of the details and shading which make the pieces so rich and engaging.

THE BIGGER THE BETTER!!

Super Liz

I was working on a client job for a book cover and doing some illustration tests to see how I could best portray a woman "breaking through a glass ceiling". So here's my one test, that I liked so much I've decided to put it on my business cards. I needed an image on those anyway.

Diane - creating "eyes that sparkle"

Here's an interesting version of what you can do with the eyes in an illustration. The client requested "more sparkle" in her eyes as her entire life people have said she smiled with her eyes. Here's the first version...

0

...and here's the sparkle version! They really pop. I created the difference by layering a series of the lighter shades within the eyes with a variety of gradients. Further I added additional shading and highlights to the outside of the eyes to draw in the viewer. Its a subtle but very powerful difference that really changes the viewers perception.

Meant to be big

My artwork is designed to be blown up HUGE! As you can see from the detail here from "sarah's right eye (scroll down to the bottom of the page for sarah's whole image) . Shown in the teenie, tiny scale of the internet really takes some of the power away from them. If I only had to worry about my work appearing on the net I could probably cut down my illustration time to 1/4.

To get that wow factor, I include a FREE portrait poster with the basic package. Its a huge 2' x 3'.

Sarah looking better

Poor Sarah couldn't have been in a worse spot. This is the only photograph that her loving family has of her. Even as an hard-working immigrant and the mother of 5 children, I can only surmise that if she knew this would be THE photo that would follow her through time she would have at least smiled and taken that towel off her shoulder. So I gave her a makeover, fixed her hair, got rid of one of those chins! I even gave her one of those tight, denture grandma smiles like mine used to have. Now she looks like she's ready for her great grandson's Bar Mitzvah. Do you like the blonde highlights? I think they suit her.

Going Beyond the Glass Ceiling

Here's the updated cover art for another powerful woman Diane Dutton of businesswomenspeak.com

I've been working on this book cover for awhile. I've been playing with the glass and the backgrounds to get the eyes to focus in on key aspects. Look hard and you can see the new logo I designed too. (Its on the left) Its been a fun project.

Breaking the Glass Ceiling

BOOK-COVERILLUSTRATION4_03

Well, I've been working on that book cover for Diane Dutton. If you've been here before you've read how I did the test image based on myself. Diane has a fabulous website named http://www.businesswomenspeak.com/. She provides straight, clear ideas concerning how to get your voice heard in a male-dominated financial field. This cover is for her book called, "Soar Beyond the Glass Ceiling: Lock in on the secret weapons gauranteed to rocket your career." If you're interested, you can purchase the book with the old cover and title at this address: http://www.businesswomenspeak.com/womenladder.htm

new business card

OLINERGRAPHICS-BUS-CARDS

These are my new cards. I felt that instead of just my logo I should put one of my images on them. Yes, that's me, Liz Oliner, flying through glass to meet the urgent need of your graphic emergency!!

Portrait Poster at a Bat Mitzvah

I was just emailed this from one of my Bat Mitzvahs. In this case the mom used the poster to highlight where the sign-in books were and to help direct the guests to different locations. We also offer mini-poster prints (actually not so mini 11" x 17"!) for only $8.99 in our shop sites. These are great on doors and outside the building for parking etc. Don't forget the art makes great thank you cards too, all available in your shop. Don't forget this poster art is included in your portrait purchase.

Take 10 Now card #2

take10cardfront2
Here's another version of the Take 10 Now cards. Of course, I also created the logo. The "0" is supposed to represent a clock with the pink pie shaped wedged representing a ten minute span of time.

And How About This!:

Less than two hours from the moment I met Liz Oliner she had a complete
feel for my business and the energy I wanted to project. I had a
completed business card in my hand less than one week later, and was
thrilled as I watched my client list double at the first event I was
able to give them out. I love the image, my customers love the image.
I couldn't be happier with Liz's work.

Take 10 Now

take10cardfront
I met Rory one fine June day, such a positive, amazing person. We hit it off right away as did our dogs. We are both proud owners of Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, the best dogs in the world. She immediately commissioned me to create an image for her business cards for her amazing business "Take 10". Her image was snapped on my porch after she had just been on the beach. You can see how much fun she is and it was a pleasure to draw her.

Take 10 has as its focus the concept of taking ten minutes each day to fulfill your life's dreams. I tried it and I can honestly say her advice is amazing and it shockingly seems to work. Check out her site here and on my link page. http://www.take10now.com. For a fantastic review of their company click on this link http://www.entelekey.com/entrep1.html.
